IDEALS
Summary
Russell has three desires in his life: love, knowledge
and pity for the sufferers. He has looked for love because it makes him lonely
and because in the union of love he has seen the heaven. He has equals desire
for the knowledge. He wants to know about the humanity and the universe.
Finally, he has sympathy for the sufferers. The cry of the hungry children, the
oppressed people and the helpless old people touches his heart. He wants to
reduce their pain, but he can’t. Love and knowledge leads him upwards toward
the heavens, but pity brings him back to earth.
