Telematics media have recently emerged in the field of
information and technology. This technology is the combination of telecommunications
and informatics. This technology brought a revolution in its field because it
may replace broadcast television. In this technology, a visual display unit is
connected to a computer network. This information technology is called new
electronic media which has many application and functions. The technologies
involved in new electronic media are the technology of transmission, the
technology miniaturization, the technology of control by computer.
According to the Cambridge
dictionary: ways of communicating information that are electronic rather than using paper,
for example, television and the internet.
The new electronic media are different from the old
ones. The new media is different from the old ones in terms of
decentralization, high capacity, interactivity and flexibility of form, content
and use.
The new telematics media facilitate the distribution
of existing radio and television. In addition to it, the media have two main
forms: teletext and videotext. The teletext makes additional textual
information available and videotext provides computer stored information with a
terminal and television screen to those connected on the same network. It also
supplies printed materials.
The new media also includes computer video games,
virtual reality and video recording of all kinds. Home video is the extension
of television and cinema. Thus this new media is the hybrid medium. CD-ROM is
another innovation used in this field. Each individual has the access to the
new media. The new media are in initial stage, they represent a challenge to
production, distribution and basic forms of the later.
